How to set up a Google Business Profile as a contractor
Doing it yourself? Here are the steps we follow.
- Claim or create the profile. Search your business name on Google Maps. If a profile already exists, request access to it. If not, create one at business.google.com with your exact business name, no extra keywords.
- Pick the right category. Choose the main category that matches the work you want most, like Electrician, Plumber or Roofing contractor. Add a few secondary categories only for work you actually do.
- Set it up as a service-area business. Most trades work at the customer's place. Hide your home address and list the cities and towns you serve instead.
- Verify with Google. Google picks the verification method. For many contractors it's a short video showing your truck, tools, signage or the work you do. Google reviews it, which can take a few days.
- Fill in services, hours and photos. List each service in plain words, add your hours, and upload real photos of your work and your crew. Skip stock photos.
- Link your website and ask for reviews. Point the profile at your website, and match the name and phone on both. After each job, ask happy customers for an honest review.

No. Most contractors run a service-area business. Your home address stays hidden and you list the areas you serve.
Who does the video verification?
You do, from your phone, because Google wants to see you and your business. We tell you exactly what to show and do everything else.
Do you promise I'll show up first on Google?
No. Nobody can promise that. We set the profile up properly, match it to your site and keep it current. Rankings are up to Google.
Can you fix a profile I already have?
Yes. We clean up the name, categories, services, service area, hours and photos, and link it to your new site.
